Sunflower & Cosmos Mini Sessions: Fun in the Fields of Lehigh Valley
This summer, the sunflowers didn’t just bloom—they exploded with color and joy! I had the chance to capture some amazing moments in two different sunflower fields, each with its own vibe. Whether you're into the tall, wild sunflowers in Bethlehem or the neat rows in Germansville, these sessions were all about fun, laughter, and some seriously golden memories. Plus, the Bethlehem location threw in a bonus cosmos field for an extra pop of color!
Here’s the scoop on why these fields are awesome and how you can get the most out of your sunflower session next time.
Two Sunflower Fields, Two Different Vibes
1. Bethlehem, PA – St. Luke's Anderson Campus (With Cosmos Field!)
The Bethlehem sunflower field is a bit wild—in the best way possible! The sunflowers here are tall and planted randomly, which means no two photos are the same. You’ll feel like you’re in the middle of a sunflower jungle, and the surprise cosmos field nearby adds a splash of color that’s hard to resist. These flowers bloom first, from the end of July into August.
What Makes Bethlehem Great:
Unpredictable Fun: The sunflowers are all over the place, making for cool, unique shots.
Cosmos!: Yep, there’s a cosmos flower field too—bonus points for variety.
Early Blooms: If you're ready for sunflowers in mid-summer, this is the spot.
2. Germansville, PA – Rows of Sunflowers (My Personal Fave)
Now, let’s talk about Germansville—it’s my favorite! The sunflowers here are shorter and planted in straight rows, which makes everything feel a little more organized. It’s perfect if you like a bit of structure (and if your kids love running through rows of flowers). These beauties bloom later, around the end of August.
Why Germansville Rocks:
Neat Rows: Perfect for those who love a clean, symmetrical look.
Great for Kids: The shorter flowers are fun for little ones to explore.
Late Blooms: If you missed the first wave of sunflowers, no worries—Germansville has you covered.
What to Wear to Your Sunflower Session
Sunflower sessions are all about feeling comfortable and looking great. Here are some easy tips on what to wear:
Earthy Colors: Go for neutral tones like cream, tan, or soft yellows. They look amazing with all that sunflower goodness.
Flowy Dresses: A nice, flowy dress works wonders, especially if the wind catches it just right.
Simple for Men: Stick to button-downs or t-shirts with jeans or khakis. Easy and stylish.
Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be in a field, so keep it comfy with sandals, flats, or even barefoot!
Avoid Loud Patterns: Simple, solid colors work best with all the natural beauty around you.
Why Sunset is the Best Time for Photos
Sunset is when the magic happens. The light is soft, warm, and golden, which makes everyone look amazing—no squinting or harsh shadows here. Plus, the colors in the sky and the flowers are just chef's kiss. Trust me, sunset is the way to go.
How to Sign Up for Sunflower Sessions
Here’s how it works for my sunflower sessions:
Get on the Waitlist: I offer a waitlist because sunflowers don’t bloom forever! Once you're on the list, you’ll be the first to know when they’re ready.
Pay a Retainer: To lock in your spot, there’s a small retainer. This way, you’ll be sure to snag a time during the short bloom window.
Email Notification: As soon as the flowers bloom, I’ll shoot you an email with available dates and times.
Choose Mini or Full Session: You can pick a mini session for quick fun or a full session for more variety and time to explore.
