Sunflower Senior Photos with Friends | Lehigh Valley Senior Photographer

Senior photos don't have to be an hour of standing alone in front of a camera wondering what you're supposed to do with your hands.

Sometimes you bring your best friends.

And honestly? I am very into this idea.

I met up with Kherington, Grace and Amelia for a summer evening in the sunflower fields near Northwestern Lehigh High School, and this session was exactly the kind of senior photography I love! Relaxed, a little chaotic, full of laughing, and completely them.

We photographed the girls together, gave each of them time for individual portraits, wandered through rows of sunflowers, found an old truck, took a few phone selfies, and finished the night out on a quiet country road as the sun went down.

Basically: the opposite of awkward school-picture energy.

Senior Photos Should Actually Feel Like You

One of the things I tell my seniors all the time is that you do not need to know how to pose.

That's my job.

You don't have to practice your smile in the mirror. You don't have to arrive knowing where your hands go. And you definitely don't need to become some completely different version of yourself because there's a camera pointed at you.

We'll move. We'll walk. I'll give you something to do. I'll fix the weird hand situation before you even realize there is a weird hand situation. 😂

And when you bring friends along? Even better.

There is something about having people you know standing beside you that makes everybody relax almost immediately.

Why Take Senior Photos With Your Friends?

You absolutely still deserve your own senior session and individual portraits that are all about you.

But there is something really special about documenting the people who were part of this season too.

The people sitting beside you at lunch. The ones sending you ridiculous TikToks at midnight. The friends who know which teacher you're talking about before you even finish the sentence.

High school feels endless while you're in it and then suddenly it isn't.

Years from now, I think these are the kinds of photographs that hit differently.

Not just, "Look what I looked like senior year."

But:

"Oh my God. That was us."

Choosing a Senior Photo Location in the Lehigh Valley

Your senior session location should feel like you.

Maybe that's a flower field at golden hour. Maybe it's downtown Bethlehem with a completely different vibe. Maybe you want tall grass, city streets, an old truck, your favorite park or somewhere connected to something you love.

That's one of my favorite parts of planning senior sessions.

We don't have to force every senior into the exact same location and the exact same poses.

For this session, the sunflowers gave us that bright, summery senior-year feeling and then we changed everything just by walking over to an old weathered truck.

Same outfits. Same girls.

Completely different look.

And Yes! You Can Bring Your People

If bringing a friend helps you relax, bring them.

If your mom is your hype person, bring her.

If your dog is basically your firstborn child, tell me ahead of time and we'll find somewhere pet-friendly.

Senior sessions aren't supposed to feel like a performance. I want you to show up as yourself and leave saying:

“Wait… that was actually fun.”

Apparently sometimes we can also convince three girls to sit directly in the middle of a road at sunset for the sake of the photo.

Which brings me to…

Senior Photos Are About More Than a Yearbook Photo

Of course we want the beautiful photo your parents will frame.

We want the one Grandma orders in an 8×10.

We want the photo that eventually becomes your graduation announcement.

But I also want the ones that remind you what being 17 or 18 actually felt like.

The friendships. The laughing. The outfits you loved. The place you grew up. The version of yourself who had absolutely no idea what the next few years were going to look like.

That's the good stuff.

And that's what I want your senior gallery to hold onto.
